"Now I want to warn you," Brooke explained, "you're not guaranteed to become famous."

"I don't care about the fame," I replied, honestly, "I'm just in it for the music."

"That's what I like to hear," Brooke praised me.

At that moment, David walked in the door.

    "Hey Brookie, 'Liz!" he exclaimed.

"Eliza, is there some exciting news you'd like to tell David?" Brooke asked, smiling in my direction.

"Uh oh..." David said, "that doesn't sound good."

    "I got..." I began.

"What exactly did you get?" he asked.

Brooke slapped him gently & playfully.

"Let her finish," she told him.

    "I got a record deal!" I exclaimed.

"ALL RIGHT 'LIZ!" David shouted, pulling me into a hug, "that's awesome! You had me worried there. I thought you got a "C" on your geometry exam or something else."

    That's when I remembered.

My grades were coming home today. I began to feel nauseous, and I must have passed out, because I came to on Brooke & David's couch.

    "What happened?" I asked.

    "You fainted," David told me.

    "Are you okay?" Brooke asked.

"I'm fine, I just got a little nauseous & nervous," I replied, "I should probably go home now."

"I'll drive you," Brooke said, "it's fifty gajillion degrees out there, plus you just passed out. I don't want you walking in that heat."

We went out to Brooke's car and she drive five blocks to my house.

"Want me to come in with you?" she asked. I nodded and retrieved the mail. I saw an envelope, and the return address label was my school. My heart rate rapidly increased.

When we got inside, I handed Brooke that horrifying envelope.

"Will you open this for me?" I asked, "I can't look."

    "Sure, 'Liz," she replied.

I felt like it took her forever to open and analyze it.

"Eliza, this is very disappointing," she said.

Oh no, oh no, oh no.

    "91," she told me.

    "91?" I exclaimed, "I DIDN'T GET A C!!!"

I hugged Brooke and twirled around my living room.

That really HAD turned out to be the best day of my life.
