Love at the Cook n' Brooke, chapter 2 Empty Love at the Cook n' Brooke, chapter 2

Post by brookesbiggestfan January 19th 2009, 11:27 am

"Eliza," I called, while she was on her way to the kitchen with the orders, "come into the Lounge please."

"Okay..." she replied suspiciously," she followed me into the Lounge.

    "What's up, Brooke?" she asked.

"So what's the REAL reason you wanted to switch tables?" I asked, hands on my waist.

"I just wanted to," Eliza replied, looking at the ground, "I uh... like number sixteen better than four."

"That's not what I saw," I told her.

"Then what DID you see?" she asked, in an almost angry tone.

"You," I told her smiling, "you were smiling at the guy at the table."

"Uh, you told me to always smile at customers," she said, arms crossed.

"Yes, but you smiled at him differently," I told her, smiling gently, "you know him?"

"Yes," she said, "he goes to my school."

"Do you like him?" I asked.

"Brooke, no!" I shouted, "stop prying into my life!"

With that, she ran out of the Lounge, slamming the door behind her.

    I felt really, really bad.

"What was that all about?" David asked, walking into the Lounge.

"I pried," I groaned, "she hates me now."

"She doesn't hate you," David assured me, "how did you pry?"

"I asked her if she liked a guy," I told him, hanging my head in shame, "I nagged to get it out of her."

"Broooke," he moaned, "you must know that girls are sensitive about that. You should know. You're a girl."

"I know," I replied, "I feel awful. Wait... how did you know?"

"I grew up with seven older girl cousins," David replied, "I know everything."

I laughed. Seven girl cousins. Haha.

"Give her awhile," David said, "then apologize for prying."

David was so smart & sensitive. I had the best husband ever.

Later on, I went to talk to Eliza.

"Eliza, can I see you in the Lounge?" I asked, gently.

"Why?" she asked, not even looking at me, "so you can pry into some other aspect of my life I don't want to tell you about?"

"No, Eliza," I replied in a sensitive tone, "come with me."

Reluctantly, Eliza followed me into the Lounge.

"Eliza, I'm really sorry I pried," I apologized, "I should have been more sensitive."

"Yeah, you really should have," she replied, angrily, "I would have told you when I was ready, because, truth is, I really do like him."

"Do you wanna talk?" I asked.

"Sorta..." Eliza replied, "Okay, his name is Lester, and he was in my English & biology classes last year. He's so smart and SO cute."

I got her to spill the beans.

"But you can't tell a SOUL," she warned me, "or I'll never talk to you as long as I live. Secret handshake."

Eliza & I did our secret handshake as I vowed not to tell anyone.
