The next day, Eliza showed up three hours before opening, which is at 10:00. I was nervous. I hope she didn't know my secret yet.
"I'm still suspicious," she told me, "this is a big secret. I'll find out."
"What secret?" David asked, lying, "Brooke, are you hiding something from us?"
"Nope," I replied, casually, walking away.
"Broooooooooke!" Eliza complained, "tell me! You can trust me! I won't tell anyone!"
"Eliza, not yet," I told her.
Whoops.
"So there IS a secret!" Eliza screeched, "I just knew it!"
I blew it.
"I never said that," I said, nervously.
"Aha, but you said 'not yet'!" Eliza laughed.
"Crap," I said to myself.
"Tell me," Eliza demanded, "now."
"No," I replied, "I can't!"
"Tell me," she nagged, "tell me. Tell me."
"Soon," I told her, "soon. I'm not sure of everything yet."
"Keeping secrets you really want to share isn't healthy, Brooke," she said.
"Then I'm SICK," I said.
"That's the secret?" Eliza asked, "Brooke, that's not much of a secret."
"No!" I cried, anxiously, "that's not the secret! You said that keeping secrets you really want to share isn't healthy, and I really, really want to tell somebody else MY secret so that would mean I'm sick! I can't tell you the secret!"
I was not really able to comprehend why I was so moody.
"Okay, okay," Eliza replied, gently, "I'm sorry I pried, Brooke."
"No, no, it's fine," I said, sighing, "I told David I wouldn't tell anyone yet. We're not sure of anything."
"Okay," Eliza replied, "sorry, Brooke."
"It's alright," I told her, "stop apologizing and get back to work."
Eliza walked away.
I walked into the Lounge and sat on the couch next to David. I leaned on his shoulder.
"She knows something's up," I told her, "even Carly knows I'm not acting right. They know we're hiding something."
"Awww, Brooke," David moaned, "you have to drop the subject for awhile. We'll go after we close today just so we're 100% positive."
"I'll try," I replied, "but this isn't an easy one to hide."
"Once we know for sure, you can tell," David said, "I'm testing you on your weakness."
"Well at this rate, I'll get a D," I joked.
David laughed.
"In a couple of days, the whole city of Mesa will know," he told me.
I laughed, knowing he was probably right.
